Our Norwegian adventure led us to a charming and lesser-known treasure: Borhella Lighthouse.
Nestled along the rugged coastline of Norway, this historic beacon provided us with a perfect blend of maritime history, stunning views, and cozy accommodations.

A Journey to Borhella Lighthouse

Our exploration of Borhella Lighthouse began with a scenic drive along the coastal roads. The lighthouse itself, situated on a rocky promontory, stands as a sentinel over the surrounding waters. Although it’s not as famous as some other Norwegian lighthouses, its picturesque setting and rich history make it a must-visit for any traveler.
The lighthouse is open to visitors from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily during the summer months (June through August). We arrived early to make the most of our visit. The entry fee is modest at 100 NOK (about $10), which includes access to the lighthouse’s museum and the chance to climb to the top for panoramic views of the fjords and coastline.
As we climbed the narrow spiral staircase, the anticipation built, and the reward at the top was breathtaking—an uninterrupted vista of the shimmering waters and rugged cliffs.

Exploring the Lighthouse Museum

The museum within the lighthouse is a treasure trove of maritime artifacts and exhibits detailing the history of Borhella Lighthouse. From antique navigational instruments to stories of daring sea rescues, we were captivated by the rich maritime heritage. The friendly staff were eager to share tales of the lighthouse’s role in guiding ships safely along Norway’s treacherous coastlines.

Strolling the Scenic Trails

After our lighthouse visit, we explored the surrounding area. The coastal trails near Borhella are perfect for a leisurely hike. We followed a well-marked path that led us through lush vegetation and along the cliff edges, offering stunning views of the ocean. The tranquility of the landscape, combined with the sound of waves crashing below, made for a memorable and peaceful hike.

Cozy Stay at Fjordside Lodge

For a truly special experience, we stayed at the nearby Fjordside Lodge, a charming hotel that perfectly complements a visit to Borhella Lighthouse. Located just a short drive away, the Fjordside Lodge offers cozy rooms with stunning views of the fjord.
The hotel’s rustic charm and modern comforts made our stay incredibly enjoyable. Rooms start at 1,200 NOK (about $120) per night, including breakfast. The inn’s on-site restaurant served delicious local seafood, adding a delightful touch to our stay.

Lykkers, our visit to Borhella Lighthouse was a highlight of our Norwegian journey. From exploring the historic lighthouse to enjoying the natural beauty of the coastal trails, every moment was filled with discovery and wonder. If you’re seeking a unique and serene escape, Borhella Lighthouse and the nearby Fjordside Inn offer an unforgettable experience that beautifully captures the essence of Norway’s coastal charm.
